We recently received our annual (and very humorous) round robin newsletter from our good friends. Their little boy Isaac (age 6) wrote in his segment of the newsletter 'this has been an epic year for me'.
I thought that this was a great description, and how it fits really well for us too, so we will therefore borrow Isaac's phrase and say 'this has been an epic year' for Jakabi Photography!
Thank you to all of our customers, both new and returning, it would not have been possible without you. Thank you to our suppliers and our lovely contacts in the wedding industry.
Thank you also to our three children, Abi, Jake and Oscar, who are very patient in allowing us to try out new ideas, and naturally, they all feature somewhere in our year in review.
The year began with dreadful flooding, which caused devastation to homes and businesses. Steve captured some images in Bridgwater during the flooding, with Blake Gardens taking on a lot of the River.
We offered you 'something different and unique' from our family shoots, asking if you wanted to 'stand out from the crowd'. Many of you took us up on this offer, as you will see from our shoots throughout the year.
Steve captured some amazing images on his trip to Mexico, and some equally amazing shots of Weston by night, proving that you don't have to travel far from home to capture a memorable photograph.
We also purchased a drone camera, just for fun, in order to add a new dimension to our images.
We added a gift voucher tab to our website, offering the service to brides and grooms enabling their guests to purchase vouchers toward wedding albums for the couple, and also to customers wishing to purchase family/ location shoots.
More family shoots, on location. The springtime surroundings made a lovely backdrop, and we had a great time at such venues as Fyne Court and Hestercombe.
Further to our graffiti backdrops of early 2013, we experimented with some more urban backdrops, providing an interesting and on-trend element to our outdoor work.
The landscape images are taken for fun. Photography is very much a hobby for both of us as well as our business.
We had the pleasure of photographing Aimee & Jonathan's Wedding at Bridgwater Rugby Club and Gemma & James' Wedding at Somerset County Cricket club.
We were invited to become the official UKbride Win a Wedding Photographers. This was a huge opportunity, which we gladly embraced. UKbride has a huge following, and is a great wedding planning tool for brides and grooms
The late spring/ early summer provided great opportunities to capture you in the great outdoors. Family shoots in the countryside, cornfields and at the beach prevailed.
In May, we headed to Birmigham to capture Hayley & Aaron's day at the Hotel du Vin.
We always accompany you on a recce of your wedding venue in advance of your day, and our view of the docks at Bridgwater provided some interesting shots in readiness for Gemma & Neil's wedding in May.
June welcomed the marriages of Terri & Lee (Middleton Hall, Tamworth) and Sarah & Gerd (Greenway Farm) Antony & Anne (The Blacksmith's Arms) and Dean & Siobhan (Hornsbury Mill)
The summer months provided the chance to photograph Eva Ellen Couture's brand new collection - it is always a pleasure to work with Sheena. Her dresses are breathtaking. Our models Laura, Lucy & Miranda were fantastic and a great time was had by all.
The majority of the dress collection was shot on location at Brymore school, a newly-licensed wedding venue, which we have had the pleasure of officially photographing for the launch. We have been working closely with Rosy at Box clever Wedding who has been instrumental in promoting Brymore. Our images feature on their brochures and material, and we have really enjoyed working with everyone here. Thank you also to Patrick & Kizzy for being our models.
In July, we captured the day for Ben & Gina (Letchworth Manor Hotel), and August saw the wonderful weddings of Kayleigh & Tom (Batch County House), and Laura & Scott (Taunton School), Kelly & Dean (Steve at St Mary's) and Michael & Sarah (Antonia at Bridgwater Rugby Club)
More beach location shoots, and some experimental light painting provided some interesting images for the rest of the summer months. We also shot on location in Wembdon and at Weston.
Autumn is such a beautifully colourful month and we love to take advantage of the dusky evening sun. It was great to be out on location during these months.
We were fortunate enough to work with a selection of amazing local suppliers in producing a 1950s shoot for UKbride magazine. The shoot was styled in the fashion of the 1950s, and we recreated every element of the wedding- you can find more about it here, including all of the suppliers involved.
Late September saw the wedding of James & Kim (The Orchard) and a really interesting visit to a miniature railway site for the couple shots.
We will capture the essence of your personality, and make moments into memories.
Carnival was a massive highlight this year, and Steve's photographs capturing the candid side of this amazing event, proved to be very popular.
We held our annual Christmas studios, back by popular demand. For our Christmas studios, we hire out a local venue, and offer slots to you, bookable in advance. It was great to see so many of you in the studio, and also returning customers from previous years- that's when we really know we are getting it right for you. Many of you asked whether we will have a permanent studio one day....our answer...for the moment, we don't honestly know in which direction 2015 will take us, and for the time being, we will go with the flow, whether than be a few studio dates a year, or simply the Christmas/ Easter ones.
We do however currently offer location shoots throughout the year. There were some wintery location shoots, proving that we really do go outdoors come rain or shine (although maybe not such heavy rain!)
So here's to the year ahead; may it be filled with fun, imagination and inspiration.
Happy New Year to you All.
There is so much vibrant beautiful oil seed in bloom at the moment, that both Steve and I were inspired to go on an impromptu shoot yesterday evening, with the children.
We all love being outdoors, and our love of the natural world is reflected in ourfamily shoots which begin at £65, and include a selection of images on disc, with the option to purchase additional images afterwards.
A great investment, and the results will look stunning adorning your walls at home.

Jakób (age 5) wanted to get in on the action too, and can be seen below photographing Steve:
Antonia & Steve live in Somerset and have over 20 years' photography experience between them.
