In the midst of choosing your wedding photographer, you will also need to think about what kind of a package you would like, and whether or not this will include a wedding album.
We are seeing a definite trend for couples opting for professionally designed wedding albums, and hopefully this post will help you to decide whether or not this will be the right option for you.
You can, however, choose a disc or usb only package. It is definitely worthwhile taking some time to consider which option will work best for you.
Consider what you will do with the digital photographs afterwards....
1)Will you have the opportunity to make prints or canvases after the wedding?
2) Will you be able to store the disc of images for the rest of your lifetime and for future generations? (i.e will the images be transferred on to a hard drive? Will you consistently upgrade your technology to maintain the files so that the images are preserved?)
If the answer is yes, a disc or usb-only package is a good option for you.
However, some couples prefer to have a disc-only package with the intention of designing their own photobook at some point.
This is something which can be done online, in a number of styles and finishes. There are a few considerations if you are planning on doing this:
1) do you have a creative eye?
2)will you make the time to design a photobook the months after the wedding?
3)will the print be of high quality, and will it to do justice to your wedding images?
4) will the paper and page quality stand the test of time, and again, will it do justice to your wedding images?
If the answer to these question is yes, then designing your own photobook may be the right solution for you.
If the answer to many of the above questions, however, is no, then you may wish to consider a professionally-designed wedding album or album set (as pictured)
Our follow up surveys with couples suggest that after a wedding, many couples who opt for a digital-only package do not get around to printing out their wedding photographs. This is understandable because after the wedding, life takes over and time seems to run away ('there is always tomorrow'...etc). If you have a wedding album package, it will focus you to work with your photographer to design your album after the wedding, producing lasting memories of your special day.
These albums are generally only available to professional photographers; they cannot be designed by and ordered by the public. They are printed on high-quality papers, with the colours really vibrant and most importantly, true.
Something that you should know is that some photographers simply do not offer this service- they may photograph many weddings per year and they simply do not engage in album design, which can be a time-consuming process for a photographer. If you are considering a wedding album package, it is wise to ask your photographer beforehand if this is something that they can offer to you,
A professionally designed, high quality wedding album is truly an investment for your future, a way to preserve your special memories forever and something that children and grandchildren will go on to cherish- a piece of history in the making. The photographs are printed onto the pages, rather than glued on, or attached. This means the photographs will not age and wither and fall out eventually, like the older-style wedding albums of yesterday.
A professionally produced, high-quality album will have options such as page lamination, various kinds of cover (including metal , leather, cowhide to name a few), so that the album will still look in great condition years down the line.
Wedding albums come in selection of different sizes to suit everyone- you can get parent albums (mini copies of the main album), and even guest copies (smaller still and exact replicas of the main album- a perfect 'thank you' gift for your close family and bridal party).
The number of pages in an album will also vary- anything from 10-100. Remember you will need to select the photos to go into your album, which is why it may be wise to go for a manageable number of really high quality edited images from your photographer in the first place.
To give you an idea, the average length of wedding album that our customers opt for is between 30-40 pages. You will need to select between 30-60 photographs to feature in this size of album, with a maximum of say 80 for a 40-page album. Many more and it will be too cluttered.
Sometimes a shorter wedding album can be really impactful- 10 double page spreads showcasing the very highlights of your day, in just 10 really meaningful images can produce stunning results.
Your photographers will be able to talk through all of the options with you, and will also have examples available for you to view. It is certainly worth a bit of time and consideration.
